Because it has been in people's homes it cannot simply be relabeled. It must be discarded. Increasing numbers of Americans are hungry and can no longer afford butter but we are throwing away 80,000 pounds of it.
“80,000 pounds of Costco butter was just recalled, because the label doesn’t say that it contains milk. It’s butter. News articles are telling people how they can return, or safely dispose of, the butter. It’s butter,” one person deadpanned.
One social media user joked, “Can y’all please safely dispose of it at my house? I have a lot of holiday baking to do.”
“Next they’ll recall beef that might contain cow,” another chimed in.
Another person quipped: “If you need to government to tell you that butter is a dairy product then…well, I can’t help you God I loathe the state.”
